Hello Everyone,
After more than 20 years of drinking local Swiss stereotype brews and generating a huge desire (need?) for some decent Ale at an affordable price, last year I decided to go back to home brewing (did loads at Uni decades ago, doesn't time fly). So with the aid of Easyjet and a suitcase full of beer kits (all clothes go in the hand luggage every trip now) I've been enjoying various brews I've brought back from the UK including Woodfordes Wherry and Sundew and and St Peters Golden Ale. "Our" favourite at the moment is the Sundew which somehow disappears more than twice as fast as anything else I brew as my son and his mates really like the Sundew too. Less enjoyable was the Coopers Ginger Ale, too much artificial sweetener in it.
This weekend starting the Simply Ginger and Burton Bridge Summer Ales are on the agenda, though I'm not convinced this latter will make it into the summer
Kitting up I managed to find some suitable fermentation vessels locally and decided to import KingKeg pressure barrels. I added pressure gauges to these as I don't like running blind where high pressures are involved. These are also great when testing whether Kegs are air tight. I only bottle a little HB for comparison purposes later on. Happily my old hydrometer, heating belts etc still work after 30 years.
I'll be looking around for a recipe to enhance another Coopers Ginger Ale kit I still have and will endeavour to hide that artificial sweetener induced flavour. I notice there are a number of posts on the subject of Ginger Ales and will read through them in detail.
I look forward to some very enjoyable "chats" on the forum - thanks for running it !
Cheers :
