Hi, I am Lawrence from Newtownabbey, which is just outside Belfast in Northern Ireland. I have just completed a one day brewing course at the Walled City Brewery in Derry and hope to be brewing my own soon.
Will probably need a lot of advice.

Hello.
Not sure if you are aware but there is a Belfast homebrew club, they are having a meet this Thursday night in Brewbot, everyone welcome even newbies. Unfortunately I can't make it myself this time.

Thanks for that. I wasn't aware, unfortunately I will not be able to make it this week but would definitely be interested in attending some future meets if possible.

You can keep track of them here. I've only been to a few meets but they are a good bunch of guys and some very good brewers.

There is also a brew club attached to Nature's Way that meets every 4th Tuesday in Belmont Church. It's just really an excuse to get sozzled midweek. Google Natures Way on Facebook and you will find more info.

What are you planning? All Grain or kits? You'll find this forum a friendly and helpful group, don't be scared to ask noob questions. I started with kits but have moved to all grain. AG just takes more time but there's nothing difficult about it. You don't even need expensive equipment to get brewing, just a couple of quid can make you a turbo cider or a 5 gallon batch of AG.

I am intending to start with kits and hopefully progress to all grain. Haven't tried this for over 20 years and the last time was a disaster with an old Boots kit.

I started with a Coopers Kit, it gives everything you need to get going. In hindsight I'd have chosen the bitter kit over the lager one. True lagers need cool temperatures and the lager in question wasn't the best.

You can pick up everything you need in stages. I know it's my local shop but The House of Home Brew give great advice and a personal touch. Geterbrewed is just up the road from you but you won't get the same knowledge.

All Grain is pretty Simple. It was this thread that got me started along with a free boiler donated to me by Niman. The big difference is time, you really need a good part of a day to do a brew but you don't need anything special to do a 5L brew, just a pot big enough for around 10L and a thermometer. Cost wise is also cheaper than a kit.

Tesco's had a massive sale last month so I picked up 4 kits which I'm going through now. I'll return to AG when I get these used up.

welcome, you will find the kits are so good today in comparison to the boots kits of yesteryear, i brew both ways (hhmm!) kits and AG and have no problem chucking a kit into a fv, i hope your patience is rewarded with some grand brews and patience is what is needed with this hobby

Thank you, I will take a look at this, I am sure I have a couple of pots that are at least 10 litres. I must get a trip up to House of home brew.
