I have been brewing premium home brew kits for a year or so, but have only just come across this forum. I have brewed about 10 different kits and my favourite brew so far has been Munton's Midas Touch. I am fortunate to have a cellar and I use a heated pad for fermentation in winter.

I was a member of CAMRA in the early days (late 60s) when real ale became an almost extinct species. The mega-breweries were buying up and closing down real ale breweries as fast as they could. We were only being offered the evil monopolies of Double Diamond, Watney's Red Barrel, Whitbread Tankard and Younger's Tartan. Fortunately CAMRA has been successful in its ideals and there are now good beers available everywhere in UK.

I went through the phase of home brew kits from Boots in the 70s and this nearly put me off for life! Fortunately a friend recently gave me a glass of his Wherry and I discovered how much things have improved.

I would like now to experiment more with my brewing by adding extra hops. My personal taste is for light hoppy beers such as Deuchars or Yates bitter and would welcome any tips.

Glad to join the forum!

Mike

There certainly are, and I'll bet nearly all of 'em are north of me

Welcome Mike,

They're a good lot on here; I've had more than my fair share of advice, probably asked a few dumb questions but always recieved a friendly reply.

I'm sure one of the experienced brewers ( thats not me by the way ! ) will be more than happy to answer any queries you have.

Cheers
