Hi all! I'll start simple, I'm Ben and I'm 33 and currently living in Bristol with my wife and 2 kids. I started home brewing in March this year with a Wilkos kit and have continued using kits since but have started throwing in some extras. Hope to speak with you all soon enough! Many thanks, Ben.

Nice one Robinson. What are your thoughts on your first kit brews? What tweaks are you making? Do the wife and kids leave you any beer?
Welcome to Valhalla.

The Velvet Stout from Wilkos was a great introduction beer for a newbie and I'm finding the kits relatively simple and straightforward. With my Bulldog DIPA I added some grapefruit essence and I will not be doing that again, seems to artificial for my liking. With my Woodfordes Real Ale, I've added banana puree and some amarillo hops, should will be bottled this weekend. And finally, the Youngs American Mocha Porter, I'm adding vanilla pods, peanut powder and cocoa beans. The wife is enjoying the beer, the kids, they're 11... But they do enjoy bottling, capping and labelling which suits me fine!

Not if they’re charging an entrance fee, Volly usually has a good selection, usually drink my own (so to speak) as £7 a pint is what’s going to bring the craft industry to its knees. I prefer Arbour and Bristol Beer Factory having tasted much of what Bristol has to offer, and am brewing a Smiles Best clone today for old times sake.

**** me sideways! £100 for a weekend ticket and £10 admin fee, and you get to buy the beer!!!!!

Get thee to the Volly me babber!

Not sure where you're looking? £45 for a day ticket and drink as much as you like? And considering a lot of the beers there charge £7-8 per 1/3 pint, I'll definitely get my monies worth. I go to The Volley often, usually after a couple in Small Bar.

Or Beer Emporium, Arnold Phoney or Tobacco Factory, Greenbank etc etc

Sorry Ben yes I see you gain a festival pour, whatever that is, but yes does seem better vfm now. You are right and I am, as so often wrong ...... still not going o_O

Basically, you get to try as much as you want, of anything. I'll be heading to King Street after no doubt, so keep an eye for my mug if you fancy a hello. I am myself trying to now drink more of my own beers, providing they turn out okay.

Sounds like you've got the team mobilised. Off to a good star, I should say.

Welcome to forum. Best start saving now for the impending shiney, multiple fermenters, brew fridges, keggerator and so on and on and on.......

It will happen as this hobby is somewhat addictive.

Go and hang out at New Bristol Brewery with the owner Noel hes a very helpful chap and you can always pick up tips there. Or even do the intro to all grain brewing course with Jonny Mills that they run through the year.
