Hello All

Just to warn you all, I'm new to this hobby as well as the board, so will likely make a fool of myself asking stupid questions that you've all answered a thousand times already!

My wife and I plan to leave work (and this country) soon and try our hands at a "Good Life" type of existence. As well as growing our own food, it makes sense to make our own beer/wine/cider etc as well (I'm not giving up ALL my luxuries ) hence my plunge into this world. I promise to try not to be too much of a pest, but will say a big "Thank You" in advance for any advice given.

The Search facility is pretty good although the button's not that obvious - just under the banner to the right hand side.

If you can't find what you need don't hesitate to ask, it's often said that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask and which might have prevented your brew from going down the drain.

You can get it in all manner of places and it is the business when it comes to wines.

I've been both brewing and winemaking for a while. The recommendation of CJJ Berry's book will tell you nearly all you'll ever need to know about making wine. Brewing is an altogether more subtle business - I'd suggest you ask lots of questions. Average beer costs as much time effort and money as good beer, so it's worth learning how to do it right.

If you are going the "Good Life" route - all grain brewing and poultry keeping are very compatible activities. Hens love spent brewers grains, pickled eggs go well with a pint, and there must be a chicken casserole recipe that involves beer somewhere.

I am (along with trying to learn about brewing/winemaking) currently reading avidly on the subject of keeping chickens. Corn seems to be a good feed for chickens, and there are quite a few brewing recipes for it, so I'll definitely be growing large amounts of the stuff (added bonus is I love corn on the cob ).

Hi and welcome, out of interest where are you moving to.

We've bought a wee place near Almoradi on the Segura river (South West of alicante). About an acre and a half of land...so enough room for chickens, food and extra fruit, grains etc to keep me and Mrs H in the demon drink...hopefully! :pray:

Nice place cyprus. I've never had a holiday there, but used to have to make a few work trips out to Akrotiri.
