Hello everyone!

Newbie to both the forum and to home brewing. Well, I say new to brewing, as a student (20 years ago now!) we managed to produce quite a palatable drop but sadly the house mates lost all the kit so never really took it forward.

Now, as an older and allegedly wiser man, I've decided to take up the noble art once again. I'm looking forward to browsing the boards for some tips and advice.

I'm originally from Northumberland and now live in Suffolk. My other likes in life include British comedy of a certain vintage, especially Carry On Films, cooking, cricket and generally the finer things that life has to offer.

Been lurking around the forum for sometime now, picking up hints and tips from all. I'm now into my third brew, started with a Wherry and barrelled it, to be honest I neglected to prime it but it didn't last too long in the barrel anyway it was that good!

I now have a Northumberland Brown Ale ageing in bottles, I won't be touching for a couple of months based on the reviews here. In the FV I've an Eighty Shilling going on, this will be going in the barrel (primed this time!) and can't wait to try it.

Quick question regarding the CO2 for a barrel, when to use it? Is it necessary?

Thanks!

Note - just found the answer in another thread! I knew it'll be there somewhere! Thanks all who contribute, this forum is a real fountain of knowledge for a novice!
