I was wondering if anyone has used a electric blanket as a heat mat?
I've a small circler mat I use I the garage with a coat tied around the fermenter. I would like to put 2 batches on at a time and have been banished to the garage because of lack of space in the house!
The only thing I would be concerned with your ink bird will knock of at your perfect temperature but the heat will still be in your blanket I have my ones in the garage just made a box with ply wood put some king span around the inside my fermentation bucket on a heat mat ink bird in my bucket cost a little bit but perfect job

I bought a reptile heat pad (I now wish I just bought a brew heat mat) how quickly should your brew warm to ideal temperature? I'm testing on 20L of just water as a trial in chest freezer, I had it plugged in for 2hrs and went from 9.4c to 13c before I unplugged as I thought it was too slow?

I haven't done anything yet,but I've spoken to a electrician at work. He said looking at the wattage of my ink bird and the heat mats I was hoping to get from "Get Er Brewed",I could plug in a extension lead and add the heat pads on.
Attach the heat probe to 1 of the fermenter buckets (insulated/wrapped up)and it would be safely regulated.

If I was going to use a blanket (but I would not) I would create an air gap between the mat and FV. Dont like the idea of a heavy vessel on a small portion of the blanket - not designed for that

Apologies,I was talking about actual round heat pads, although I had originally asked about the above.
