Okay.....so my new boiler arrived
It's shiny and the position of the element means that it will be difficult/undesirable to use an immersion chiller.....espeically the one that I have at present.

I like the look of the Blichmann Therminator but the price is a bit eye watering.

Are there other types of heat exchanger (read cheaper ones) that would do the same job?
Could you for example use one from a combi-boiler?

Thanks in advance, Mark
(wishes he'd studied engineering not biology  )

Edit - what about this??

Edit again - that seller also does a 20 plate 44kw version too, and a 50 plate 90kw version.

That Blinchman kit looks good but the price,
The ebay one is £44 with postage, not so bad but what does 22kw equate to in terms of performance in our game, one for the neck ups ;) I could work it out, but someone on here will do it a lot quicker and its been a hard day :(
I put together a counterflow cooler for about £20- 25, from memory which is not so neat but works very well. 8mm copper down 12.5mm braided. :D Not sure of its best time, will put the clock on it at the weekend ;) :D
You makes your choice and pays your money. ;)

Take a look at this page. These are really good He actually has another range that are priced lower than these, but the plates are smaller in size. I got a 60 Plate 125KW one for around 100 quid. . . but that 40 plate 165KW one for 109 is probably one of the best value ones you can get for cooling power / pound. . . . And is probably the one I really should have got as it is plate size that is important not the number of them.

The one above will do as good if not better job than the therminator, and its considerably cheaper.

UP

Just ordered that one Shane :)
Thanks again for the input guys.

Well, my heat exchanger arrived yesterday - I bought the one from unclepumples link.
Very surprised at the size and weight. It is about as big as 4 cigarette packets and weighs a fraction of what I thought it would.
If this does the job for me, I will be very pleased.

I'll post a pic over the weekend if anyone is interested.

I do like the look of those. I went down the homemade counterflow route a la 10mm copper and garden hose.
are all the connections threaded?, what size/what are you using to plumb it in?
