Ok so it's lower you should still get a difference in picture. The thing that scares me  is that it's saying It has NO HDMI input and only 3 scarts????? Is that true Vossy?????? I know the hype isn't always correct

EDIT, reading the manual again it appears to have a screen resolution of 1024 x 1024, not as I previously thought 1920 x 1080 :hmm: I was reading the signal mode resolution in error, sorry!
Proper TV info can be found here

Sky HD only seems marginally better than standard because it is broadcast in 720p not 1080I or P, as far as I am aware freesat is the same so effectivly 1/2HD.
But if you us a good dolby digital amp the sound quality is far superior to std TV, I use a dolby digital 6.1 system all the time.

IF you want the full benefit from your HD TV you want a BLUE RAY Player, that is defo like the difference between B&W and colour, coupled with a SS amp that can supply THX Sound the experience is far better than any trip to the cinema, and whats more you can press pause to go out and get another pint from the garage.

The Main benefit of freesat HD over the others is ITV HD is on freesat but not on any of the others, you will also be able to recive channels for free that sky don't allow you to view.

I was looking at Freesat boxes, but think the way to go is get a decent make INTERNET enabled LCD with Freesat built in, then you can view all the new internet TV services such as BBCI, CHannel 4OD, ITV online, YOUTUBE, etc etc etc, and also watch freesat services, Thats the route I am looking at and cancelling my sky HD subscription.

Just my 2 peneth, but Sky HD is broadcast in 1080i by default, and encoded in MPEG4 (less encoding artefacts that standard digital) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky+_HD. ITV digital is also 'available' on sky if you have a search on Google for 'sky hd itv hd 10510'. It is not in the listing, but is viewable, and as its free is fine!

HD is also just a term, and 720p, 1080i and 1080p are resolutions that fall under it; all being classed as HD and none as 1/2 HD. As there is not much in it between 720p and 1080i with the number of pixels pushed (720p is 89% of 1080i's pixels per second due to interlacing), you would still getting about the same amount of 'info'.

I do totally agree that blu-ray is definitely the only true way to get the best out of a 1080p telly :thumb:

Bringing this one back to life. I am going to get a hd freeview box of some sort but...
I read somewhere last week (can't find it now) that a raft of new free to view HD channles are being launched this summer, but that most boxes in the shops at present can't receive them (only one box could/can at the mo).

Can anyone clarify this for me as I don't want to spend my dough only to find out if I waited a bit longer I could get a box that does :hmm:

Vossy here is the link to freeview HD http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Services/Freeview-HD

New HD freeview boxes are due out now and and HD recorder boxes due out later in the month so if I were you i'd wait for the ones you can record on and just to clarify HD is brodcast at 720p on freesat, freeview, and sky HD due to the amount of bandwidth required to send the signal.
But whatever you decide to buy you can gaurentee a week after you have bought your new system they will release a better model

It may be worth the wait for a new freesat HD box vossy.

I have just had to replace my SS amp due to a failure, I bought a great ONKYO AV amp that upscales all VIDEO signals from my sky HD box, WII, DVD etc to my TV, the result is far better picture quality on my TV from all sources std def and also better HD picture quality, and the sound is fantastic.

Go look in richer sounds they have plenty to choose from, mine upscales all inputted AV or HDMI signals up to 1080i output through an HDMI cable so all pictures qualities are improved!
