If you get your start water to a slightly higher temp and insulate the boiler well while mashing you won't need to turn on mid-mash !

Heat the water in the boiler to 73°C, then add your bag and 'feed the grain' into the bag installed with the draw string around the outside lip of the boiler. stirring as you do it to avoid and break down any dough balls which develop. Pop a sleeping bag, duvet and old coat etc over the boiler, the mash should be sitting at 67°C. The process of feeding your 'room temperature' grain in lowers the temp from 75°C.

I lost 1°C over a 1 hour mash in the Peco boiler on Saturday, will post details of my brewday and First Gold Yorkshire Bitter later tonight once home from work.

This is my mash, before popping the lid on, and covering with the sleeping bag and an old blanket to insulate well:
