Can you import from Eire without delays? To keep NI in EU when the rest of the UKleft was lunacy. Shame they never worked it out before Brexit.
It was baked into hard Brexit - everyone told them that the Good Friday Agreement assumed an open border with the Republic, and that hard Brexit would therefore move the border into the Irish Sea, but they just didn't care. It also didn't help that Johnson appears not to have known what he was signing in November 2019 "there will not be checks on goods going from Northern Ireland to Great Britain" and five months ago : "there will be no border down the Irish Sea – over my dead body".
But that's where we've ended up. As another data point, I was feeling smug yesterday about an order placed a few days ago for a non-brewing item which had been dispatched just before they made an announcement that the store was no longer sending to the UK. It was an international company which was rather vague about where its warehouse is, I assume it must have been inside the EU (Ireland?).
I then felt a bit less smug when I got an email today saying that the parcel had been returned to them from the courier on "paperwork makes this too complicated at the moment" grounds and they were refunding my payment. A used one sold on Ebay today at a premium of >50% over the cost of a new one!
