Have I ruined my brew??

Hey I need some guidance from all you experienced folk.

I bottled my first ever brew at the weekend and for various reasons, my inexperience and ineptitude being among them, a good few of my bottles had quite a bit of air bubbled through them as they were filling. Now I know that this is a bad thing but was wondering just how bad it is?

Have I ruined my first brew??

Btw, ordered a little bottler for the next batch. Aint hindsight wonderful!

First time we brewed there was plenty of oxygen got in it at bottling time, siphoning takes a bit of practice. Are there air bubbles constantly going through the siphon? If so then check there are no dents in the tube, and that the receiving vessel is lower than the, erm, *giving* vessel (*that doesn't sound right, insert more appropriate word if you wish). We had a little bottler too but it doesn't seem to work with our siphon - you do need to wash it properly straight after use too or its a PITA to clean!

There's nothing wrong with letting a few bubbles through, you may have "broke the seal" a few times by exposing it to the air but it really won't make much of a difference. I suggest siphoning with a friend so they bottle and you can view where the wand is in the brew.

Hope your first one is a good one! They normally are.

I did the very same on my first brew!

I was pretty excited about using all the equipment when I started, the anxiety will disappear quite quickly.

My advice now is not to over-seal the pressure barrel now you've got the brew in. I used a friends pressure vessel recently and the o-ring was distorted from too much force, it can let oxygen seep through and leave the cap smelling like dirty socks (not to mention replacing the seal and potentially ruining the brew!).
