I have just started a california Connoisseur Rojo Tinto 30 bottles. It's been 6 hours now and still getting no bubbles through air lock.

I am an absolute beginner at this and the only experience I have of brewing is one lot of beer which finished primary last night. And a 6 bottle california connoisseur which I started last week and that one had bubbles within a couple of hours.

Anyway I followed all instructions to the letter.

Any ideas how long this one will take to get going? I can't really afford to buy another kit till end of next month if this one fails.

Cheers in advance of your replys and help.

can take a couple of days to get going.....don't panic.....................................yet

No problems. I was just concerned because the last one stayed so quick. Thinking about it they both had the same size packet of yeast for the 6 and 30 bottle pack. So maybe that plays a part.

Thanks

The amount of cells of yeast in the ratio of sugar medium in this case grape juice matters. The more juice you have the longer it takes for the amount of yeast cells to grow to the required amount to be able to start to ferment.

So just wait it out and it will ferment.

If nothing after a week, then it's time to worry. So sit back and relax. Yeasties are very good at what they do generally as long as you give them the right temp. Make sure you don't go over 25c and above 17c.

Guess it's the old saying that a watched put never boils. I've been checking every 30 minutes. I'll leave it now and look again in a day or so. If nothing after a few days I will be back for more advice.
Thanks again for your help.

and if its a bucket then the airlock might not be active at all as they aren't air tight and CO2 escapes through the lid "seal"

I've had a couple of 1 gallon wines that have taken about to day to show signs of life, so for a 5 gallon batch it could take a day or two. Best advice I can give is to put it away somewhere, have a drink, and check it in 24 hours.
