Use a tall glass or something else (for today).Sticking a little - definitely need better kit here.
I think you are using the packaging for the hydrometer as a sample tube and it’s designed to hold it not let it float.

It was whole. And yes, 65c for an hour.Hi Marko so you mashed 4.6Kg of grain @65c for 1 hour?
something deffo wrong - was the grain crushed or whole?
QEDIt was whole.
Water temperature is 24.Would like to see another pic of that hydrometer free floating in water in that tall glass jar if poss. Take it at eye level, with water as close to 20c as poss.
Surprised a kit came with whole grains, but that being the case, that's your answer. You cant convert uncrushed grains. It was whole. And yes, 65c for an hour.

Some of them give the option. Could be as simple as leaving the drop down at umcrushed. PITA but not too expensive a lesson I suppose. Were did you buy it, i have bought a few ag kits and they always come crushed, contact them to see if it's a mistake on their part
A crate of Murgy Straight will sufficeGood call Baron! I doff my hat to you.
