I'm supposed to be brewing tonight. 1214 Smack pack didn't really swell after 8 hours yesterday, but I know 1214 is a slow starter so I made a starter with it last night anyway. (Yeast smelt perfectly fine then.)
So after 20 hours it still *looks* completely inactive... but I've been shaking it every now and then and as time goes on it's throwing out more and more gas every time I shake - last time I did it it was like shaking up a can of coke and it got a bit messy.
So am I right in thinking it must be alive if its generating CO2, even if it doesn't look like it's doing anything?
Just trying to decide whether to go ahead with it tonight or not.
Don't mind pitching too small, but obviously don't want to pitch dead yeast!
