harvesting hops

hi ive got a hop plant in the garden when is the best time to harvest the hops and how do i dry them ?? :wha:

You might be a bit late this year. There's plenty of stuff on the web, but you're aiming for the hop cones being paperlike, but not brown and dried. Rub them between your fingers, should be slightly sticking and give a good odour - if they're green and wet it's too early.

For my money; harvest at the right time, dry in the loft, bag in usable quantities, seal tightly and keep in the freezer until you need them.

Mark is correct in his advice, but you dry them before packing and storing
The dry weight should be 20% of the green weight.
