If its Dried Malt Extract it will also add the ABV - Not a bad thing to add. How much did you add?

I added 1kg bag of dried malt extract.

Plan is to leave it for a long secondary fermentation in a barrel, before putting it in a keg/bottles.

He means if it's an extract kit you have more of the syrup in the sample than you should if it's was fully mixed. I think we are all just a bit surprised by the strength of the kit...

I have not got my head around the Original Gravity. Is 1070 a high value??

For me yes. I like my beers around 5 to 5.5 % so my OG is normally around 1.050.

Putting your value into brewfather and assuming ferments down to 1.010 you will have ....

But if I was a betting man I would suggest that the yeast may struggle to chomp through all that sugar and you may well stop at 1.020 (which is not unusual) which will end up being 6.6 %
