I understand that grain keeps for less time when crushed, so I believe I should plan on crushing my grain. Any tips on economical solutions?

Although I do crush my own grains for years I would keep a 25kg sack for a few months and smaller opened bags of specialist malts longer. Just make sure they are stored dry an as cool as possible.

Crushed rain will keep for months if you store it correctly. I buy a 25kg sack the then fill large zip lock bags up to the brim so there's no air in them (each ZLB holds about 1.7kg). I then store all the ZL bags in a 60L plastic drum. I bought my last sack, last october and the grain is still fine

I'm using crushed grain that's 14 months old and it's bloody lovely. Sacks stored in under-bed vacuum bags.

Some good answers, so thanks. I would be happier to avoid buying a grain mill.

However, how cool do I need to store the crushed grain? Is 20-25C okay? This is something I had not thought about.

Ideally as cool as you can. If you've a cellar, fantastic. I just store mine in the spare bedroom/Mrs MQ's walk in closset. So it depends on what time of the year it is as to what the temp is

Another thing to consider if you are buying crushed malt is where you buy it from. Some suppliers will crush it when you order so you know it is fresh. Others will buy it in crushed so you don't know how long they and the original miller have held it in stock. I would avoid any supplier who only sells crushed grain.

Humidity is more the issue than temperature; keep it dry and it'll keep longer. That said, temperature does bring on the weevils doesn't it @MyQul?! ashock1🤢

Two reasons for crushing your own grains you are in control of the crush and to be sure you are using the freshest grains possible.

I've always used crushed grains from THBC and I know they're crushed fresh as I've been to their store on a whim with great service. On saying that I've purchased a 3 roller grain mill to mill my own but that's after I get through the 30kg of crushed malt I've bought a week before I took the notion as it was initially to mill flour for the missus.

Drunkula...sounds like you are keeping your woman well....if she wakes up early give her a damn good thrashing.
The shrieking when she wakes caused by the realisation of my continuing existence is punishment enough. And knowing that her village is safe while the coventant remains keeps her diligent in her duties.
