Graham Wheelers Adnams Broadside, anyone brewed it?

The one thing I am struggling with before having my first go at a Bottled Broadside clone is choosing a suitable yeast.
Firstly, WLP025 Southwold Ale is not available, the so called Wyeast equivalent 1335 does not sound at all suitable (to me) "A classic British ale profile with good flocculation and malty flavor characteristics. It will finish crisp, clean and fairly dry. "
Broadside being somewhat sweeter and definitely fruitcake flavours. (Though the sweetness perhaps from the high temperature dextrinous mash).
I think a combination of WLP025 and Wyeast 1335 may have been the way forward, but this is not possible.

So, what to do?
I could try it with WLP002 which I have in stock "Residual sweetness accentuates malt character along with mild fruity esters "
I also have WLP013 and WLP005 in stock, neither of which sound right.
The nearest to me sounds like Wyeast 1187 Ringwood Ale "Expect distinct fruit esters with a malty, complex profile. " and I am thinking of giving this a go though have never used it so perhaps anyone with experience of this yeast could suggest if I am on the right track?
Whilst I am trying to get as close as I can to the bottled Broadside at the end of the day it's only for my own consumption so just getting close and more importantly a pleasant drink will be good enough.

I've got a brand new can of Ghost Ship. I'm making up a flask of culture medium as we speak. I've not vented the can and I'm not going to. I've drawn the red tap and wrapped it round with a bit of kitchen towel soaked in metabisulphite solution. I'm going to draw off the first 250 ml or so and hope it contains the yeast. We'll see after it's been in the medium a couple of days. If not, I'll draw as much off as I can without venting the can, and again the next day The day after tI'll finish the can and put the last knockings into a culture medium.
Lets see if we can't get some Adnam's yeast rockin' and rollin'.
I'll keep you all informed as to how I get on.

Indeed, it'll be interesting to see how it goes, I have a can of Ghost Ship here still unopened. I have seen nothing as yet to suggest that Ghost ship is either keg conditioned or even if it is, that it is on proper Adnams fermentation yeast but i hope I am wrong.
The only one I have seen that is officially live is the Broadside in mini cask rather than mini Keg as per THIS VIDEO

Good luck

You might have seen this before but if not, here you go. This is a blackboard on the wall inside the Adnams brewery:

I hadn't, so thanks for posting, interesting to see the malts for Broadside as Pale Ale and Black, THEIR WEBSITE which is quite informative has it listed as Pale, Black and Chocolate and also loosely hints at a high mashing temperature. I shall save this image to my hard drive.

Interestingly I have found one online supplier that seems to have mini cask Broadside in stock, not sure why they seem to be the only one, even Adnams don't have any. DRINK STATION the reviews seem good enough though. If I do order though I'm not sure how quickly I can drink 8 pints of the stuff on my own, your method sounds interesting @An Ankoù but will you obtain enough yeast do you think? I would have thought you would need to shake up the dregs to get it all.

@An Ankoù I have just found this old thread where somebody has in fact propagated from a Ghost Ship mini keg. The only question, is it the correct yeast?
Thanks for that.
Here's my reply from Adnam's:
Thank you for your email, I have spoken to our head brewer and he informs me that there is no yeast in the mini kegs as this is filtered out prior to packing. I do hope this answers your question.
This is good new as "racked bright" beer still contains a bit of yeast and, if I can culture it, it'll be the right yeast. Here goes.

Good news yes, that makes sense. I do wonder how much of what the head brewer said was misinformation. The mini Kegs of Broadside distinctly say "Live cask Beer - Settle before use" printed on them

Adnams name their 5 litre containers differently. The mini “kegs” contain filtered beer but the mini “casks” contain live beer and it’s these ones which contain the yeast. Looking at their website there are still no mini cask live beers in stock but I notice they now have bottles of Tally ho back in stock, which is bottle conditioned.

@An Ankoù I have found a list compiled on Jim's Beerkit of bottle conditioned beers believed to contain the primary strain, HERE 5th post, the interesting line being:
"Adnams (mini-kegs contain the primary dual-strain, but bottles do not) "

Yes, I have found Broadside though HERE I had a chat with them and they bought the entire stock and what with Covid Adnams have not yet produced any more.

Postage always kills it, but 21.99 is not the end of the world, a lot of smaller breweries selling 5l mini casks for £25.00 although my Ghost ship only cost me 13.00 from Sainsbury's. I have bought one anyway, if I can get the yeast off it, it will have been worth it.

yeah, agreed. Shame is that they are £16 direct from Adnams when they have stock. plus postage of course

The Mini Kegs contain filtered or bright beer and the casks are basically filled up straight from the fermenter. The latter contain the original yeast and have a very short shelf life.
The kegs of filtered beer are filled and then (I think) force carbonated, but they aren't pasteurised so there will always be some residual yeast, but not enough to cloud the beer.
the question is whether there is sufficient yeast to get started. I've drawn off the first 250 ml and put it in a culture medium and we'll have to wait and see what happens. Otherwise I'll wash out the newly emptied keg and culture up the wash. It's fingers crossed time.
