Yesterday I pitched my yeast.
Sprinkled CML midland.
Temp in brewshed was 5c.
I plugged in the heater & inkbird and wrapped the BM in two sleeping bags.

Then realised I had not given it a whisk or even a stir. Walked away.

Today it has snowed, so I have checked the yeast has started....
... By sniffing the vent through the sleeping bag. Its fine. I will come back in a few days, for bottling.

I will understand if the yeast botherers out there need to go and lay down

That you are not up to date with developments in dry yeast manufacture, and that the manufactures of Notty say dry yeast needs neither rehydration or aeration on first pitch. This has been the case for a few years. So, using them as they are designed to be used is no issue. Carry on.

Seems fine to me I always sniff. At 5c yesterday it sounds almost tropical. I think I might not like Midland yeast though.

I always try to ensure after pitching 500g of yeast into 800L of wort that I pick up the fermenter and give it a vigorous shake for a minute.

I've never done either of those things, didn't know you were supposed to. The instructions say sprinkle over the wort and that's all I do - sprinkle and go. (LOL)

I have found it reduces lag. Just a 10 second whisk, I am up on the modern methods, but thread my own path.

As for sniffing....be careful where you stick it .

My nose is my first judge of anything potentially edible, more so than appearance.

Yeah. I agree with you there. A sniff gives you much more than even a detailed examination.
