If you believe that then you'll believe in anything
Farmers get paid little for the grain.
We pay lots for the grain.
Somewhere in between there is a happy fella sat on a mountain of pennies

Barley price index = Euro 201 per metric tonne = £163.20
Maris otter = £32 per 25kg (Or £12800 per metric tonne)
:wha:
these prices that you have quoted are for barley, not malted barley, nor have you taken distribution costs, suppliers profit into account. Your figures might be correct, but it still doesnt matter as I can brew a pint of beer for £0.16 (barley only)Frogfurlong said:johnnyboy1965 said:But then again we dont pay a lot for anything, Barley, hops, yeast or water

I would have thought that malting a whole tonne of barley would cost a fair amount including labour, factory space and energy for heating...Frogfurlong said:johnnyboy1965 said:these prices that you have quoted are for barley, not malted barley, nor have you taken distribution costs, suppliers profit into account. Taking that into account the difference of approx £12600 per tonnne, I'm sure it doesnt cost that to malt and transport/store. As I said, somewhere there is someone sat on a pile of pennies
