Can any of you Yorkshire folk confirm if traditional Yorkshire Parkin is made with black treacle or Golden Syrup? My mate, who’s from Yorkshire, uses only Golden Syrup, but the wife says black treacle. :wha:

We are off to the Preston Beer Festival tomorrow night and they have listed Pint O’ Parkin from the Garthela Brewhouse so maybe this beer will settle the argument :hmm:

Black treacle of course :thumb:
That's how My Mum makes it :thumb:
(I'm originally from Leeds((Gods own City  )) and now in exile in the Midlands ;) )

This is a recipe by James Martin a Yorkshire boy I beleive.

Channel 4 food reccomends this.

A traditional Yorkshire recipe for a Bonfire Night treat. This yummy ginger cake recipe will get you fired up

Ingredients
225g/8oz self raising flour
110g/4oz unrefined cane caster sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 egg
200ml/7fl oz milk
55g/2oz butter

Golden Syrup seems to be the choice :hmm:

As a Leeds Loiner I vote black treacle without a doubt.

I agree with Aleman, leave the golden syrup for the flapjack.
