What with supermarket meat being god awful & expensive I have come to the conclusion that buying a whole lamb from the butchers may be a good way forward. Anyone else tried this?

Yep, always do it, price around here is about £80-£90 at the moment for decent quality
Can't beat it. Been round the butchers today looking to get half a pg also

£89 is a good price, meat prices are on the move up again after this whole horse fiasco so don't be suprised if things get pricier.

I buy lamb and pork by the side from a local farm - butchered to a reasonable point and then frozen. :thumb:

The meat is much better quality and I know where it comes from, which has always been important to me.

What I need to learn now is how to bone out the hand or shoulder for my sausage making :hmm: I suspect this will mostly involve the purchase of a decent boning knife

We used to get one for free every year cause my Grandad was an accountant and he did the accounts for a farmer mate of his in his retirement. He got two spring lambs every year and gave us one. It was brilliant... enough lamb to last the whole year. We usually had the last roast on New Year's Day.

Your in emsworth? I'm down in southampton, if you ever want someone to show you how just give me a shout.

We usually pay around £70 delivered and with a free sack of hearts for the dog (helps if the farmer lives next door though)

Great offer, thanks Sam - I'm certainly tempted to take you up on that some time.. as long as we don't have to talk about local football teams ;)

Haha Paul, I'm happy just knowing who's the better side, no need to discuss it.
As I say I'm always happy to show you how.

Didn't take any pics of this,sorry-but on the whole well happy. Done a quick costing with Asdas prices & I still think I saved about £40 odd. Going to go for a 1/2 pig next.
