BiL birthday coming up. Is there any new kitchen gadget must have ideas?

I was thinking temp probes with wifi/bluetooth/app connection, but not sure if these do what I want them to do, i.e. can be used in the oven, I think they're mostly for bbq

The best kitchen gadget I've bought in the last couple of years is a hot air fryer. By the time it normally takes the oven to warm up the food is cooked.
For a gift, a good quality end grain cutting board (and some mineral oil to keep it in good condition) is normally appreciated by a serious cook.

My most used are my KitchenAid mixer, the Ninja Foodi (an all in one air fryer/slow cooker/pressure cooker and more) and my Anova Precision cooker (a sous vide wand that you can stick in a stock pot). Prices range from £500 down to £100.
Bluetooth temp probs fine in any oven, again I use them a lot inside and outside.

I agree LZ we bought this one and we use it all the time we rarely put the big oven on these days.

This is the American version hence Fahrenheit not Celsius

Which brand?

If you want to go high end then I'd look at Meater or similar. Big Green Egg, Weber and all the quality BBQ companies have their own version. The probe is completely wireless which is nice.

I went cheap and cheerful with a generic Chinese brand that doesn't seem to exist anymore. Inkbird do something similar to what I have and they are likely to be around forever. Two probes are enough for most purposes, but other options are available. I've never had an issue with the wire coming out of the oven and into the control box.

They are very useful, I'll use mine every time I'm roasting meet inside or on one of the BBQ's.

Thanks Alastair, info is much appreciated. Meater looks the preferred option.
