I got back into brewing after 3 yrs cos my son who is 30 wanted to learn how to make his own.
I told him not to start big and just experiment with the cheaper kits..
Also I tried a cheaper kit (Geordie Yorkshire Bitter) at £11.00 I bought it from our local Wilko's store, and I read some of the reviews and there was one guy who had reduced it from a 40 pint kit to a 32 pint kit and added a spray malt.
With me not liking my beer to be too malty I just reduced the water.
The 40 pint kit gave an FG of 3.8% and when I was only making 32 pints it improved the FG the taste and the body ,
Its kinda subtle on the pallet with a caramel taste with an oaky note with a after bitter taste and the S.G. was 5,000 and the F.G. Was 1008 constant for 3 days .
Giving this little £11.00 Bitter a cool 5.031%
So I have recommended my son who is a novice and would recommend it to any novice brewers for a good starter kit. :grin:

Sounds like it came out spot on and for 11 quid who could grumble! :) Have you thought about going halves with him and setting up a Brew in the bag set up (this was my move from kits) i never looked back. I was happy with the kit beers but once i done my first all grain BIAB i new that was the path for me. The difference is amazing, can be done for about £120 if you have all the other bits n bobs.
