This is my third kit, two largers which have gone down well and very quickly, decided to try a yorkshire bitter today as i prefer to drink them in pub ect, but after following the insturctions down to a T(1kg of sugar, ect, ect) my hydro-meter reads 3.500, now i firstly thought(in my silly youthfulness) that i had added to much water so i took about 3 pints of the 40 i had added in, and it still read the same, so i added it back in and then took out the hyrdo-meter and put it in water thinking it would be a calabration fault, but it was correct.
has anyone used this kit before as i would like know know what i should be getting?
and does anyone know why this has happened as with the ABV calculations, i get about (in my head) 266% which is just plain stupid.

any help with this would be very appreciated!!!
many thanks.
Daniel

Normally Hyrdo readings are in the format 1.040 - do you have that range on there?

i think you need to take a closer look at your hydrometer ;)

most hydrometers only go up to around 1.120

they'll be a big black line on it somewhere which say's 1 or 1.000... for every mark under that, it increases by 0.02 .... so five marks below 1 is 1.020

yes, it may say 10, 20, 30, 40 but what this actually means is 1.020 , 1.030, 1.040 etc... it's to make it more legible

hope this makes sense :thumb:

i do see what both, of you meen, and i have made a foolish and (now ive advertised it) emmbarrising mistake.

many thanks. will tell you how it tastes.

danny.
