Hi,

Apart from a disasterous attempt at cider during Univirsity that left the house and myself covered in kebab I'm new to brewing.
First plan is to convert an old fridge into a Brew Pi, as I will be brewing in a shed with a tin roof and lots of temperature variation... plus I love electronics.

haha, maybe I will wait a while before investing that much.

But your quite correct, I'm going to try something like a IPA before the fridge build.
My ultimate aim is to brew a lager which I gather needs lower temps.

Welcome to the forum

Yes,true lagers need low temps for both fermentation and conditioning but you can make pseudo lagers with normal ale temps and possibly a cool bag and ice bottles (an experiment I've yet to try)

There isn't a massive investment in building a brew fridge and I would say ability to control fermentation is a big help in making beers as good as you can. Even with IPAs, keeping a temperature around 18-20C will get you nicer beer than letting the temperature ramp up to 25C.

I won't try to tell you how to brew a lager, Google will get you loads of info but, in general, you're correct.

Lets put it this way I've never felt so bad before or since.

I have a Festival US Steam Beer kit on route to start once the weather decides what its doing, along with some plastic bottles.
