Gas Woes (CO2)

I had read on here that the needle showing CO2 left in cylinder on the regulator stays pretty much in the same place until it's about to become empty, but I didn't realize, until tonight, that with each purge of a keg I would literally be able to watch it drop so sharply
No worries, I thought. I'll simply order a refill...

Looks like that soda stream adapter I purchased for my mini regulator is going to be useful. Just need to get a sodastream bottle. Looks like a very expensive way to force-carb my first lager

Moral is always have a spare cylinder.
Mine will run out in the next few days but I have a spare to cover me as I am sure I might have trouble getting a replacement over Christmas and the Covid issues (saying that I will try to get an exchange next week)

Sodastream is a very expensive way to input CO2

Have you investigated obtaining a pub CO2 cannister? - a sodastream bottle contains 250gms whereas a pub bottle 6.3kgs

Near me, I can buy 6.3 kgs of CO2 for the same price as the 250gms that is in a sodastream bottle. The deposit on the bottle is, of course, dearer, but you will eventually get this back

Gas supply seems to be different across the country, but it might be worth you investigating further

Indeed, I think that is the answer. Where I get mine from has such a steep deposit, I didn't get a second £80)

I do have one, it just ran out and my supplier's online shop is closed. I'm going to try to go in person from a refill
I may still get a sodastream bottle in the summer for mobile dispense, expensive though they are.

I get mine from Andover Patio Centre. They were £26 with no deposit or rental although they might have gone up since I got my last one.
Also they weren’t taking on any new business just doing exchange due to the shortage of cylinders, although I am not sure if this is still the case.
