Opened my first bottle last night, brewed after finding the recipe on here, it’s absolutly spot on, saved myself a packet on buying this stuff! Thanks for sharing.

A little off-topic, but if you like Gamma Ray, you'll probably love Verdant Pulp and LHG Cheeseburger Cavalry. Both of which are in the latest Camra Essential Home Brewing book and available as AG kits from the Malt Miller. The kits aren't cheap, but if they get near the originals, they would be worth it!

thanks, will have a look. I’ll have to brew another batch of this gamma ray first to clear out some hops from the freezer

Just to give this a bump.
Brewed 23L to this recipe 7 weeks ago now and the beers lovely. It's especially nice out of the keg.
One I'll definitely do again.

It's fantastic- i brewed this like a year ago and i just ordered the ingredients 2 days ago for take 2.
Definitely one of my best ever brews.
Shame can't find recipe for Neck Oil- would love to give that a go!

I bought enough hops to brew 2 x 23l of the Gamma. Got a few other brews planned first and then I’ll get this one on again.

Good man, I've done lots of brews in between- perfect for summer so i'm getting some pales brewed!

Love this beer and grateful to find the original recipe on this site. Brewed recently and actually cleared itself with no finings better than I intended. I steeped the whirlpool for 20 mins at 70c and found it tasted fruitier than the draft Gamma at my local Brewhouse and Kitchen.

Didn’t get the efficiency I expected, so was only 4.7%abv in the end, so closer to Neck Oil strength. Didn’t taste overly bitter for the weaker strength though.

Recently bought a book with the Gamma Ray recipe. Was going to brew it but thought I'd try it again first. I did and now I do not want a full keg of this stuff. Was it always like this or did the huge sell out to Heineken do something? I've only ever had it on draught until now but I remember it being much nicer.

I won't be spending my money on trying to replicate it. However, I also bought a can of Lupiloid. Now that is something I think I'd spend the money on cloning. Anyone have a solid recipe for it?

Think the recipe pre dates Heineken. I wouldn’t let that put you off, it’s a great APA. I was also wanting to try a Lupuloid clone but couldn’t find a recipe. Going to try this

Looks decent. My concern, as is with trying to clone beers that give you quite a bit of detail on the label, is the hop schedule. For some more learned folk on here, that might be less of an issue. Me thinks I need to study hop profiles a bit more.

I brewed this a few days ago- my first attempt turned into a completely different beer as I used different hops but was still tasty. I’ve stuck more closely to this recipe and substituted Bravo for Athanum otherwise it’s all the same. I’m actually really looking forward to how it turns out. I’ve hit all my numbers and got 19l happily fermenting away. Gonna follow the dry hopping schedule too and if I feel it needs more I’ll adjust next time.

@emerson909 Cheers for the Lupuloid recipe. I quite enjoy that one and it’ll be brewed next. Have you brewed it yet? Be good to hear if it’s a good brew.

Yes I brewed this a couple of weeks ago, its in the keg at the moment, will be tapping it at the weekend, it tasted great out of the fermenter. I need to pick up a can of Lupuloid and see how close it is but from memory it tastes pretty similar. I ended up tweaking the recipe a bit, this what I went with;

Batch Size (fermenter): 24.00 L

OG: 1.062 SG
FG: 1.011 SG
ABV: 6.7%
Color: 7.3 EBC
IBU: 55.6 IBUs
Mash Efficiency: 70.1 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Water profile

Ca 107, Mg 15, Na 8.2, SO4 248.5, Cl 51

Mash pH 5.33

6.23 kg Extra Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 EBC)
0.62 kg Oats, Malted (2.0 EBC)
0.62 kg White Wheat Malt (4.7 EBC)
0.23 kg Acid Malt (5.9 EBC)

5.00 g Columbus/Tomahawk/Zeus (CTZ) [15.50 %] - Boil 60 min 7.1 IBUs

20.00 g Citra [12.80 %] - Boil 10.0 min 13.6 IBUs
20.00 g Equinox (HBC 366) [11.20 %] - Boil 10.0 min 11.9 IBUs
10.00 g Mosaic (HBC 369) [11.40 %] - Boil 10.0 min 6.1 IBUs

50.00 g Citra [12.80 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 7.3 IBUs
50.00 g Equinox (HBC 366) [11.20 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 6.4 IBUs
25.00 g Mosaic (HBC 369) [11.40 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 3.2 IBUs

2.0 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05)

80.00 g Citra [12.80 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days
80.00 g Equinox (HBC 366) [11.20 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days
40.00 g Mosaic (HBC 369) [11.40 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days

It looks on paper to be a cracking beer in its own right and it's next on my list - I'm gonna whack it into the Grainfather recipe builder to get the batch size to my preference.

Keep us posted :)

I'm rubbish at describing beers but this one is banging, very pleased with it

Nice one - it looks the part! I dry hopped my GammaRay clone today and should be kegging it on Tuesday morning.
