galaxy & cascade pale ale

so here is the recipie i have come up with so far

5kg MO

5g @60mins galaxy
5g @60mins cascade
35g @5mins galaxy
35g @5mins cascade
20g @0mins galaxy
20g @0mins cascade
50g of both hops dry hop for 5-7 days

yeast us 05

i do have about 2kg of rolled oats but not sure if it would go with the beer. any thaughts?

Not tried oats in a pale ale yet but recipe looks good to me. You could switch the 60m addition to 15m for a hoppier beer and or add a bit of crystal.

Seems after a bit of reading oats in a pale ale is not uncommon. I just came across this grist bill for a pale ale on another site. Will have to give the oats a go myself and ommit the caramalt. Let us know how it goes.

The Bitter and Wasted has 500g of flaked oats in it. Apparently oats are common in NEIPA to give a smoother mouth feel.

Edit: Sorry should have put a bit of context on this. The Bitter and Wasted is part of a beer swap with BeerCat. It is one of my attempts at a really hoppy craft beer using a recipe called Juicy Bits from the US. Uses pellet hops at whirpool and dry hoppig.

Mikkeller use flaked oats in a lot of their pale ales.

I've used flaked oats in many pales and I do believe it gives a smoother mouthfeel. 5-10% should be enough. At some point above that it will give a protein haze if you care about that.

so 500 to 1kg should be good? can it cause any problems in the mash?

All i can so is go for it. Was a great beer with a lovely mouthfeel. Most enjoyable.

To date I have used no more than 200g of oats in a 5kg pale malt mash.

If you have anything cheaper than cascade or galaxy I would use 10g (or the AA equivalent) of that rather than your expensive hops.

only hops i have is 100g galaxy and 100g of out of date cascade that i have been given so its not too bad on the pocket
