Does it matter if you have an FV which is a fair bit bigger than the actual brew, so for instance a 15L brew in a 25L FV. Would the extra air above it adversely affect it?
 
You should be fine. The fermentation will give off CO2 which, being heavier than air, will sit over the top of your brew. No worries.
 
and the extra bit of space is handy if you have a particularly vigerous fermentation :thumb:
 
you just need to be aware of getting it out at the right point. You can be lazy with a 5 gallon brew in a 5 gallon fermenter, but put half that in a 5 gal vessel and it's much more likely to be infected from slow gas release and poking around in it - so bottle or keg as soon as you can :)
