It's quite amazing as if you look on the "picture of the day" thread at the rations per person 1950...most of the items are fat or very fatty yet the rate of obesity etc was very much less in the 50's.
I think is this due to there being a lot of processed foods/fats?

I think manual labour was a lot more physical back then so they burned a lot more calories today we have machines to do most of our lifting etc.

According to the Prof who did my hip replacement. Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Eating sugar is what does it. So now I just peel the batter of my Mars bar and eat that.

A well done fry up is a thing of beauty.
Must have..bacon,egg,sausage,black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, fried bread. If you can get it...savoury duck, not duck but extra nice.
Completely agree Clint, mind you I'll leave out the mushrooms 🍄 as they're food of the devil as far as I'm concerned

Mushrooms there's a ?, when you ask people why they don't like them most say they are slimy, mushrooms are full of water, water is the enemy it is tasteless, start with a hot pan cook until the water is gone same with minced meats and bacon get rid of the water it is nasty stuff in food and spoils the flavour,

Don’t forget the clootie dumpling. (For those unaware, this is a steamed fruit suet pudding, slices of which are fried in the general breakfast fat and served with the breakfast.)

No.2 Son once said “You two are mad! You fry something that has been cooked for nearly two hours and then eat raw fish!”

He was referring to home-made Clootie Dumpling (which I steamed for two hours and then fried) and Gravlax (which is raw salmon, wrapped in clingfilm with layers of Dill, salt and sugar; and then kept in the fridge for three days before being eaten)!

With regard to Black Pudding, I’m conflicted! I love the lumps of fat in versions from Yorkshire and Lancashire, but equally love the Scottish versions which include oatmeal.

Basically, we eat anything! athumb.. athumb..

Now for the $6M question, grilled fresh tomatoes or tinned tomatoes?

My personal bugbear is half a fresh tomato that's been lightly warmed, but is still raw. That's salad and has no place on a fry up! It either has to be well cooked through or tinned.
No doubt coming off horribly pretentious here but fresh cherry tomato’s from the garden roasted in the oven with a little olive oil, salt and pepper are delicious.

I would go for grilled. I don’t like tomatoes all that much but feel it should be eaten as an integral part of a fry up. I can eat a grilled/fried tomato easier than tinned.
