I've been thinking about doing the same sort of thing to a Keg, the bottom fitting I mean. Would it be ok to fasten the 45 degree tank connector with the top inside the keg (as a tank connector), or is there a reason it's done underneath with ss screws. :?

Do you mean 90 deg tank connector? I think the main reasion for using screws is to eliminate the lip inside and thus allowing you to drain the tun completley

Nice conversion but to be honest i've never understood the fascination with completley draining the mash tun, a few lost litres of the final runnings when the OG is low anyway translates into what 1 maybe 2 pints (in a big setup) of finished beer. Surely it would be better to minimise loss in the boiler with a setup somthing like this where every lost bit of wort is lost beer.

Yeah your right, but makes cleaning in place a peice of cake you don't have to move the tun to get the fluids or pieces of grain out, after digging out lift the flase bottom and rinse the mess down the outlet, wipe clean, done and when a 80ltr tun weighs almost 10kg you don't want to be lifting that constantly.

Is there enough room to use a standard elbow tank connector or do I need to use what MD used? :hmm:
