I just wanted to sing the praises of the freecycle network.

I know that several people on this forum have mentioned freecycle in the past, but I just wanted to add my voice aswell.

I'll be collecting 11 Demijohns from some chap in Taunton tomorrow afternoon. :party:

11 Gallons brewing, now thats alot. I may keep 6 or so, and pass the surplus on...
 
Yeah i Can vouch for freecycle as well.

I put up a message and got
70+ clean grolsch bottles,
alum keg(never been used),
heating band,
co2 injector AND
a bruheat boiler.

All I thought I was getting was a fermenting bin!!!

Cobblers, 11 gallons is nothing, you can never have too many DJs, keep'em. :thumb:
 
I have 6 in total now.
6 is the maximum number I can have to maintain harmony with the Girlf.

I thought I had posted this here before, but I've searched and can't find it. If you're still a smurf or approaching no.2 then I can understand your comment about number of DJs. Assuming my OH doesn't find this post, we are getting very close to our 20th wedding anniversary, and are somewhere between 3 and 4, so I'll brew whatever I like, wherever I like, whenever I like. Currently 36 DJs in use, 11 vacant, plus 2 x 15 litre Wurzels and 2 small buckets of beer on the go. I'm just about to rack, stabilise and fine one large Wurzel, and then I can start another.

Edit: Nuts, it's still at 1.002, so back in its water bath, aquarium heater has gone up to 22° and it can have another week.
 
I agree about freecycle, just picked up 21 DJs, also came with about 40 air traps (various styles including some weird cone shaped ones) and lots and lots of other bits, I won’t need to buy corks, labels or foil seals for a while.Anyone want a hand corker, there is 3 of them! Obviously from someone that once did a lot of brewing at sometime.
I’ve thrown the jars of yeast, but what about the stuff like citric acid, pectolase, tannin and amylase, would you still use these or throw them?
Also included is a small bag marked up as “coal from Belgium”, any ideas what that might have been for, it's crushed onto approx 5mm pieces and looks cleaned?
There is also a 1970s Sparklets beer tap which I’m trying to work out if I can use to add some fizz to some wines.
 
How do they work would I get away with just adding a pipe to the inlet and drawing the wine out, or does it need to be in a sealed bottle that pressure pushes the wine out?

Allo, fancy finding you here,

I'm aiming to stay at Stage 2 :D

Mr Barkie took me to collect some from a freecycler this week and is as pleased as can be that the collection is so far up to 15 DJ's plus two small green flagons with "several" ?? more DJs promised and four I've been tipped off were lurking around a supermarket recycling bin yesterday.

As I've only got a small kitchen today's jobs are removing more bottle labels and making a winery cupboard by turfing the hoover and ironing board out of the under-stairs cupboard and measuring it up to fit shelves in. As SWMBO and the wine-maker I concede I may have a slightly unfair advantage :rofl:

Is there a use by date on or are they THAT old, and where have they been or got contaminated with? I wouldn't risk ruining a whole batch and wasting the money spent on other ingredients and the time for the sake of a few quids worth of fresh.

I suspected your "Coal from Belgium" was charcoal so I googled 'Belgian Charcoal' that's what it could be, used in hookahs apparently.
 
5 dj's (some i swear are vintage models - or i'm just used to clear ones), 5 airlocks, 3 bags of corks and 50 bottles

Long live Freecycle! :cheers:
 
I hate freecycle lol
Never found anything I need, and I tried to give away a piano, and I offered it to 4 people who all let me down... Sold it on eBay after that.
 
Im off to meet an old dear for 4 demis and some winemaking stuff! result! Brings me up to 16 demis, 2x 5gal carbouys. The mrs is gonna be thrilled!
 
OH - Also, my previous 12 were from the tip, 50p each, well worth a scout as my local garden centre has them for £12....
 
I've just joined having no previous knowledge of the site and being in need of a large amount of DJ's/Carboys.

Lets hope Santa is feeling it in my area !! (..hang on, that didn't sound right.. :doh: )
