Afternoon all.

Time to own up to a stupid mistake I made on the last all grain brew. Everything had gone (I thought) exactly to plan on the brew- until washing down and tidying up when I realised that I had not added any Irish Moss or protofloc to the brew!!:doh: Honestly, how stupid can you get??

My question is, is there anything I can add now that fermentation has finished? It is as thick as ditchwater, but tastes fine. Normally I wouldn't worry but this is a present for my stepfather.

As always all help gratefully received.

I did the same as you last year (forgetting the Irish Moss). I think if you leave it long enough it will clear eventually. I am impatient so got some finings from Wilkos and added them to the barrel for conditioning. They worked well and I had a clear ish beer within approx. 4 - 5 weeks if I remember correctly....

There are 4 things that will help:
1 Time. When it comes to brewing, time heals (almost) all.
2 Cold. If you can put the FV somewhere cold for a few days it'll help it settle out.
3 Gelatin. This is quite effective for clearing a brew but works best in conjunction with 2.
4 Ignore it. This is where I'm at for most of my brews, I've pretty much stopped using kettle finings unless it's a lager or I'm brewing for a competition. If it tastes good then it doesn't really matter much how it looks.

Thanks all for your replies.
If it were for personal consumption, I wouldn't worry about it, but my stepfather is always in a hurry- I don't think he has ever left what I make him for enough time to mature properly! He likes Belgian Strong Ale the most, so I tried doubling up the volume and storing it at my place instead of giving it to him to mature. Result; he drank twice as much so no further forward!
I have some gelatin finings, so will give it a go.....

I only used seaweed on my first three brews and stopped using it altogether.
As @starnge-steve says time.I follow 2+2+2 and mine have been crystal clear on a few occasions when bottling ßo I wouldn't panic and you should try it again as your beer will clear just fine👍🍺
