Right the collet seems to be the 75tg looks the same and on inspection the chuck has J7316 A MT3 written on it, after wiping it clean!
so can I buy the collet set and chuck you were refering to? and be a happy boy cos I can grip any size bit in my hole! and hole them down with my multiple clamps!

 at Aleman
MD, you need to get on to one of the tooling crowds and see if they can find you a set of TG collets, you already have the chuck. There is one small problem, as far as I remember TG will only collapse 0.4mm meaning you will need collets in 0.5mm steps, this could get expensive as each one might cost 12-20 quid each.

It may work out cheaper to buy this ER32 Set incl MT3 Chuck and flog your existing chuck on ebay. I think this is the better option, the ER system has a range of collapse of 1mm, you only need half as many collets, it's a common system and it will hold anything.

Thanks Bru :thumb:
Your right it's easier for me to start again and buy the Er set up and not bad money I think.
I have just found out as well the bit I was given for the machine is 10mm and the collet is 12mm

Now I just need to get the motor re-wound for 240v and were laughing, if I can't It's gong to live at my mates unit, but it's a 15 min drive every time I need to use it :?

That actualy made more sence

there may be more than one motor, main spindle, coolant and at least one axis drive ? I'll send you some simple plans for a phase converter that you can easily build yourself, all you need is an old motor (3ph) and an old welder transformer and a few capacitors. You'll need it for the lathe you will buy sooner or later, a mill and lathe compliment each other well :D
Bru

I'll dig out your e-mail and send it later

Yeah, don't panic over the 3ph issue - there are solutions. My Thiel is 3ph but fortunately a friend has a spare inverter he has offered to me :thumb:

Another friend has made his own in a similar way to Bru's suggestion - it is definitely do-able

Keep us posted on progress. If you want to find something interesting to make on it, have a look at another forum I love (http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com). Some of the machines that the guys on there have made are amazing

With your help I may no Longer be brewing you two!
More shiney stuff I can make
Thanks Again :thumb:

It's amazing how many differnet walks of life are on here.

Don't worry Bru I'll still use you for the Turning :ugeek:

I'd get a much biger kick from seeing you making anything you desired, I'll give you any help you need along the way  as I'm sure will Eskimobob. I belive every man should have a lathe and mill :geek: I need to get out more

Love it, its a change from brewing
I used to run an old Esab three phase mig welder, (used for Landrover chassis welding,) via a 180 amp Oxford oil coiled stick welder, feeding my home made 3 phase converter, capacitors, big uns, kick starting a 3 hp. motor to smooth things out a bit. ;) Once spinning my Harrison lathe 3 hp and Richmond mill 2 hp would fire no problem, did'nt run up together, can only work one machine at once
Be very careful with big capacitors and voltages definitely not for the beginner. :nono: :nono: :nono:       They can hold a big charge for a long time and you can't see it. :hmm:
It was all wired by a fully competent electrician, with all the relevant paper work, needed to comply with current regulations
Better end it there or they will be throwing us off the forum for severely boring Engineer speak, which could be misappropriate use.

Don't worry Springer
3 phase is my work as well as 200mf caps :thumb:
You can see the charge in a cap just put the screwdriver across it first! ;)
I just didn't know about the old school way of making 3 phase work, me new school

Don't worry Springer

Wasn't worried about you M, you seem to know your way about, from my readings ;)
Yes I know the screwdriver bit, used to go off like a gun. :!:

It is over 20 years since I built my set up, had a proper 3 phase supply installed when I moved in here, needed to move the meter to outside so went for it, dug the trench and did the wiring myself, how things have changed. ;)
I believe the ready built converters are not two bad on price these days and you only need a size to handle one machine at a time and you can get speed control........... :hmm:
