I have access to 25 litre translucent High Density Polyethylene containers and wondered if I could use them as large primary fermenters for wine? What's the difference between this and the larger fermenters Wilko sell?

They have a number 2 in a recycling triangle with HDPE below.

Oh, and they've held Isopropanol, but I assume that would be ok if they are well washed and rinsed?

Hi,
Did you use these containers?
I have some 25l HDPE barrels, they contained Deionized water, I do not know if they are food grade, is there a way to find out? Would the be safe to use?
Thanks, Sue

I think I'm right in saying that food grade carries something like a knife and fork symbol in a triange, could be a fork and a glass, but I'm sure the ones you've got will be safe to use.

I did use the containers I mentioned a time or two until I found something better, they were fine.
