I don't imagine the size of your spoon will be an issue as even if you under-prime your beer will not be flat, just a bit less carbonated than you may like. Size of bottle could be an issue. For a 500ml bottle I use half a heaped teaspoon of sugar. Bigger bottles will require more - a 2L PET bottle needs 2 whole teaspoonfuls to give the same level of carbonation. Obviously if you batch prime you don't need to worry about bottle size.
As to temperature, our house is never very warm, even in summer, so I use the airing cupboard which contains our hotwater tank to ferment in and also condition bottled/barrelled beer in. Only down side is that it's upstairs so I'm regularly lugging 5 gallon FVs up and down stairs.
