I'm trying to have a go at cloning woodfordes nelsons revenge. I have come up with a recipe and run it through beersmith and taken a screen print.

Im new to all grain brewing, and only been doing it less than a month. While i know i wont get it right first time, does anyone think this should be a nice beer?

Once i entered the correct alpha acid levels i altered the recipe slightly. I will use less black malt next time for sure as it has come out a bit darker than planned. I also only got an OG of 1.043 but here is the recipe in beersmith...

looks ok you know citra will give a fruity taste to the finished beer

Yeah it does have a fruity taste... i picked citra for the citrus aroma but i have never used it before. Bought it specially for this brew. Obviously only used a little bit due to the staggering alpha acid content lol... i will let you know how it turns out

Just wondering how did this turn out? What would you change if anything?

Was thinking of giving it ago myself

Cheers

I actually loved this beer and I am about to make it again. It does lack body if drunk too soon but given 2+ months and it is wonderful.

I tried using an extra kilo of pale malt on a batch a week after this. That has body earlier, after a month it's brill if not a little strong. However after a maturation period it is very heavy and boozy.

I actually opened my last bottle of the original batch on Monday and what a fantastic pint. It didn't last long at all. Shame really because I wish now I had saved more bottles.

It was very close to the real thing too. If anything I think it was better than the real thing...

Now I'm torn, do I brew a broadside clone or this one, oh what the heck I'll do both haha.

Thanks for this, really helpful

I'd do the nelsons revenge clone as I've read Broadside is quite hard to clone as there are processes like caramalisation going on in the receipe somewhere

Ive heard that too but I have a recipe that doesn't look that complex so throught it worth ago, its possible it wont come out the same as broadside however I think it will be a very drinkable beer so nothing lost haha

I agee if you want something in a similar style to broadside I think you'll probably have a nice beer but it might quite not be broadside.
