Hi All,

Just siphoned by second brew into a barrel - and it certainly was a experience.

Could of queries tho as I struggled on the last few pints at the bottom on the barrel as I kept loosing suction pressure as I didn't appear to be able to hold the beer end of the siphon steady enough in the fermenter while doing the other end. I ended up with several mouthfuls of beer (which tasted nice already, but unexpected early on a Sat morning :thumb:!!)

1) Are auto syphon any good?
2) Would syphon clips resolve this problem (or has anyone made any homemade versions)

I ended up losing the last 3-4 pints (and bottle the first two for experiment reasons.) due to the disturbing the sentiment at the bottom - I primed with 75g sugar. What effect will this have in the barrel?

I have read to leave in a warm place for a week then cooler for a couple of weeks. does this seem appropriate?

Many thanks in advance for your help - I hope in a few weeks to be able to give my own advice to newbies like myself!

Cheers,

Nathan

The syphon clips are invaluable and should solve your problems.
Are you using the bucket end syphon attachment?
If not get both. The bucket will be held steady and you can then tilt the fermenter to get nearly all of the beer out in one go.

75g is fairly low for priming but see how it goes. I would leave at room temp for a couple of weeks before putting somewhere cooler.

Good luck

What would you reccomend for priming?

I think i still have time to add a little more before it gets going fully

I normally use 100g - 120g for a 25ltre batch.

Often it is a case of trying a value and see how it goes

Sorry just re-read my notes - and I put in 100g! I measured it a couple of weeks ago from the remained in the bag and forgot!

I will have a google of the items you recommended!

Siphon clips... what a fab invention. I've been doing home brew on and off for around 30 years and can't believe I've never come across these before!

I use a clip now but for a few years I had a piece of wood with a hole just big enough for my syphon tube to go through and let it float on brew. Really good but started to worry about germs getting on it so gave it up was thinking about making a new one but bought a clip instead
