Hi, I first started brewing beer and wine about 30 years ago then gave everything away when I moved home. Bought two youngs kits including fermenting bins etc about a year ago. I've recently brewed the wilkinsons golden ale. Two can kits for £16, the results have been excellent. Had a cards night recently and 6 of us drank around 40 pints. Everyone loved it. Started a wherry kit on Saturday. Added 250 Grams of spraymalt. Og was 01.048 and this morning it's at 01.010. If its still the same in a couple of days I will rerack into a second fermenting bin and add finnings to clear. After another 3 or 4 days I will bottle. Have used similar method with the golden ale and the beer was very clear. For 40 pints I have used 50 teaspoons of sugar for carbonation and the beer has kept a lovely head all the way to the end of the drink. Tescos were recently selling off the wherry kits for £10 each and the youngs kits for a fiver. They were also selling single electric blankets for £2.50 which I have used to wrap the fermenting bin in, keeping the temp at 78 degrees. I've picked up loads of glass bottles from local pubs and sterilised them in the dishwasher. The initial youngs kits were reduced to £7.50 this included bin, lager kit, hydrometer, sterilising solution and syphoning tube. I use crushed eggshells for finnings. This has again turned into a great hobby and costs virtually nothing.

Welcome to the forum i found your post very interesting as i was thinking od doing an IPA two canner to see if it tyrns out ok

I've made a few two tin packs up and they have all turned out really well. I've made woodfordes wherry and wilkinsons golden ale. I favour the golden ale over the Wherry(personal taste). The two tin packs don't require extra sugar, taste much better than the single tin kits and have all been very easy to brew. Good luck with yours, let me know how it goes.

i haven't tried the golden ale but doing a woodfordes wherry at the moment. i have been thinking about using eggshells for finnings but unsure how many to use, what do you recomend

Enjoying a wilco golden ale, I have brewed this 4 times and every time has came out clear without finnings. It is my favourite 2tin. I have brewed it straight og 1041 fg 1013. Then tried adding 250g dextrose og 1047 fg 1010. The other twice I added 250g spray malt coming out at 5% and love it.

I agree the wilko's golden ale is a definite hit (you'll find several pages of almost entirely positive reviews on this forum) I am also on my 4th brew, and have found the results go down very well with all beer and even lager drinkers!

What crushing egg shells ;)
I've got a Wilko Golden just about ready to drink, its the first one I've done and it is lovely, I added a packet of cascade hops after a week in the FV, and as I say its a lovely brew, I don't have any other Wilko Goldens to compare it with so I don't know how much of the hops have come through, so I might try again straight up soon
