First Moon landing.

50 years ago tomorrow, how many of the olds here made the airfix landing module?

5 live are asking listeners to send them their favourite moon related songs of which there are many so what are yours.

I didn't have the Airfix model (we did have the Space 1999 models), but I did have the Lego model.

According to my parents, I had gotten out of bed at three in the morning, and was watching the broadcast. I was three years old. I don't remember. But I have always been interested in space flight.

And looking at those old broadcasts and seeing those guys on the moon is definitely something that always sends shivers down ones spine.

CCR has got to be up there for me, I saw John Fogerty in concert last year, still excellent.

I remember being dragged out of bed to watch it. I was seven.
In fact I remember being dragged out of bed more than the actual landing.
It's strange here in Australia listening to people phone the radio stations saying they watched it mid afternoon at school.

I had the airfix model! I often wondered how they came to design such an odd looking lander. Ron Howard's excellent film, Apollo 13, explained it perfectly.

I had the Airfix model too. Also made a balsa model of the Jodrell Bank telescope when it first started.
One of my main memories of the moon landing on TV was that idiot Burke who was commentating, drawing all over everyone's screens when Armstrong went down the ladder onto the surface, and ruining it for millions of people; he said "There is Armsrong!" as if we were all expecting the abominable snowman or someone selling ice-creams. Many complained at once and the BBC stopped him, but by then it was too late - he had destroyed the experience for so many of us. I'm surprised he's still alive - he should have been executed, slowly and painfully, for what he did.

I can't remember the moon landing but have enjoyed watching the various programs commemorating the event, I cant get over the rocket weighed over 3000 tons! Most of it was the fuel needed to escape earth atmosphere. I always have a look for the space station if I think about it on a clear night ,its great to see it go overhead. https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/
