My first Extract recipe.

'Amarillo Ale'
Pale Ale

batch 22.0l
OG 1.059
FG 1.015
ABV 5.8%

60m boil

dry malt 3.3kg
crystal malt 0.275kg

Amarillo 25g 60m
Amarillo 13g 30m
Amarillo 13g 5m

Irish moss

First time playing with hops so using single variety to experiment with timings and effects.

Hi , i would drop the gravity a little . Over 5.5% seems to risk an alcohol taste and can get a bit much ( not always though) i would aim for 4.5 to 5% . This will also be ready quicker if lower . Apart from that your recipe looks fine , good luck .

Are you able to boil the entire Wort volume? I am aboutto embark on my first extract but only have a 15 litre pot so will be topping up to 23 litres.. . Interested because your hop weights look similar to my recipe. .good luck!

Ok, cheers for the advice. if I drop DME to 3kg and crystal to 0.25kg, brings it down to 5.2%

I converted a 5 gallon fermenter to a kettle, I can boil 23l + dead space max safely and I expect to loose around 4-5l through evaporation so will sparge the grains with 4l and add as space allows.
