I intend to have a go at making http://www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk/hbc ... p-852.html tomorrow.

I've bought a 5 gallons burco boiler which I intend to use outside ,weather permitting. I haven't a wort chiller so I was thinking of boiling about 13 litres of wort and then cooling by making up to 23L with cold water from containers stored in my fridge at 5C .

I also haven't got a hop strainer so would it be ok just to use a sieve when transferring the wort from the boiler via the tap into the FV which I'll stand in an ice bath.

Can anyone foresee any problems please?

Good luck with the 1st extract P
Boiling the hops in a higher gravity wort will reduce the AA extraction rates IIRC, so it may well be worth going the no chill method for your first brew as opposed to reduced boiling.

Thanks Vossy , does that mean it won't be so hoppy?, which is ok because I'm not too keen on very hoppy beers.

that depends on what you mean by hoppy...it will reduce the bitterness of the beer (AA Acids) which is mainly provided by the resins, but I'm not sure it will affect the aroma which is attributed to the essential oils :hmm:
