My first brew is in the FV bubbling away, which is a positive.

A few questions about what to do when its finished.

Im planning on using a second FV for the sugar addition, how much sugar should I add and then is it best to to syphon the beer in or can I just pour it?

Once it has been mixed does it then need bottling straight away?

Also does it matter what sugar to use.

Thanks

well done, just give it time and keep the temperature steady

I think you are describing batch priming, which is the best method to use. So when you have a constant SG reading of your beer over a few days, it has finished fermenting, you can then leave for a few more days so as not to rush it, then syphon the beer into another vessel to which you have added your priming sugar, ordinary sugar is fine (I use glucose) dissolve it in some bottled water by heating, and when added to the beer give it a gentle stir to mix in, you then bottle from this straight away, leave the bottles in the warm for say 2 weeks, and then move to somewhere cooler to condition, not forgetting to have regular quality control checks ;) how much sugar to add depends on your personal taste and what is best for the style of beer this may help

Don't pour the beer from the FV into the bottling bucket. You want to leave the sediment behind plus you risk oxidising the beer.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, your information is very useful. Do you guys buy bottles online if so where is a good place to pick them up

if stuck for bottles, cheapo supermarkrt lemonade or water pet bottles for upto 20p per 2l bottle if use water bottles tessco ashbeck is a good water for a lager if you have hard water and dont treat it.
