got my first corny on saturday. very happy with it.

as there is no need to add priming sugar thats one less thing to do but at what point do i give it a blast of co2???

do i need to let i settle for a while once its in there or do i do it straight away??

would a couple of seconds of co2 be enough??

After you rack to your corny you need to give it a blast of CO2 so that the lid seals properly. Put the lid on, turn the gas on, over the space of about 10 seconds pull the pressure release valve a few times and you will hear the gas going in. Doing this will remove any oxygen from the headspace and seal the lid.

Then you can transfer it to the fridge to cool. Once it has cooled (48 hours) you can then start to force carbonate.

Enjoy

What did you mean by that? Do you have a regulator, as that will tell you when you have enough CO2 in there.
If you are just using the small chargers with CO2 bulbs I would imagine you'll have a problem carbonating... Unless you have a large supply of bulbs.

a friend used to have some cornelius kegs, a CO2 bottle and a reg, but we never found ANYWHERE that would refil the CO2 bottle unless we had a large contract with BOC gases or something!

where do you get your bottles re-filled and what is the cost? would love to get one myself one day!

Thanks!

Glasgow! But I used to be down south in Brighton and couldn't find anywhere!!

You do realise it's cruel to keep one of these in isolation?

Get yourself a breeding pair

I'm going to try force carbonating my kegs for the first time tonight :)

Was going to try 30psi for the first 24 hours then leave it at 13psi for next few days or more (depending on the temp of course). I suppose the more I try the better I will hopefully get at this :drink:

Just ordered some stella taps from ebay which will hopefully come soon also..........

 Do you like beer with your foam? Or is this 'a cunning plan' to stop you drinking too much?.

Set it to 13 psi and leave it . . . or set it to 13 psi and hold the keg horizontally in your hands and rock it gently 100 times back and forth . . .repeat this a couple of times over an hour . . . then leave it for a couple of days. . . . Nicely dispensed carbonated beer

thanks, i thought i had found a good site that seemed to think that was the way to go, think they called it burst carbonation but obviously not then :)

You might need to whack it up to 30psi for the first shot to seal the lid, but then if you're following Aleman's advice, whack it back down to 13 psi. THe excess won't take long to be absorbed.

gas up to 20psi shake for 30 seconds detach gas and leave for a week, then serve at 3-6psi

for all those who dont have a magnifying glass to hand the post above says 'gas up to 20psi shake for 30 seconds detach gas and leave for a week, then serve at 3-6psi' :D

I am a 20 psi then leave for a week kind of guy, I then vent the gas as sometimes I have had a little secondary fermentation going on and it can get gassy, as Aleman said a pint of foam, it is only fun once and it will take ages to decarbonate.

I serve at 3 psi

Ask 10 brewers how to gas a corny and you'll get 10 different answers
