So what did I learn today a lot, how to properly swear, If I ever met the person who invented bazookas I will kill them , and don't ever again try and brew without a bag, other than that I have a fermenter with what looks like and smells like ale no chilling, I was aiming for 19 litres in the fv prob got 13 to fifteen not done an og reading yet its to warm I did one before the boil it was 1045 recipe say it should be 1050, would I still be able to use all the yeast, not going to use the us-05 I have a wilko gervin, I also learned a lot about the kettle as well when it boiled I turned it down from 2500w to 1600w it wil go down to 900 w so may try that on the next brew day, overall I am pleased with what I did happy brewing

Sounds like a decent brew day. Even after hundreds of brew days you'll occasionally hit snags. Your brew days will become consistent though once you get to know your setup.

Dan after the feck up with the mash I put the bazooka in the bin and leaf hops in a bag, I was taking no more chances

Didn't realise you meant the mash - you definitely want a bag for that. I thought you were having problems draining the kettle

I find with mine doing an 18ltr boil that the 1600w setting is a bit too vigorous and so once it's boiling I turn it down to the 900w and it just ticks along nicely. Obviously for larger volumes the higher setting may be better.

Hi Chris yes had the false bottom in never again, its down to 27c at the moment so sometime this afternoon I will pitch the gervin, just took an og reading 1053 which is what the recipe says, but it taste's very bitter not bad just bitter, I am thinking that the smaller volume I got I should have cut back on the hops one for my notes, I may have to dry hop it with some citras notes,

Just put the hopps I used into beer mate for a 14l batch and it gave 49.7 ibu's instead of the 36 I was looking for
I think because you had much greater losses than predicted then you can't use the same builder with the same wrong variables to get an accurate picture of a scaled down recipe.

I wouldn't worry. Wort doesn't taste like the finished beer.
