I wound not worry about bad kudos brewing a wherry, its a Bloody good drop from what I remember, In fact I bought one myself in Wilkos today, to fill an empty barrel I have, as I have no time to do another AG at the moment.

Hopefully will get it on the go tonight SWMBO allowing, as I want to do a wurzels and a Fiery Ginger beer tonight/tommorrow as well, LOL.

The Wherry has now made it into 6 bottles and the rest is in the keg.

Gravity 1.040 down to 1.010, gives 4% ABV according to the magic calculator thingy.

They are spending this week where the FV was sat, then off out to the shed for a while for some cold conditioning.

I'll see how they progress.

Always great to hear about a first timers success. While your current brew is sitting about maturing and getting ready for drinking I would suggest hunting about and finding your next brew. Give it a week or two and go for one that takes your fancy. You got paid recently right? ;-)

Then once the first brew is ready for drinking, you know that the second brew is only a few weeks or a month or so behind. Also means that in a months time you will not be tempted at all to drink the second brew, as the first brew is still getting drunk :D Happy Times :D

That's the plan.

Ideally, if I can get some kit together, I would like to do some smaller batch AG brewing so I can build up a selection of beers to sample.

Failing that, I'll launch another kit for the time being.

go for it ;) my boiler just broke so i`m gonna build one like MD`s how to guide viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3104 ten gallon boiler for around 40 quid!! you can build a mash tun for less then off you go  ........the dark side :drink:

Kick started my woodfordes wherry today :thumb: now its just the waiting game... again :D

Having read the OG of 1040 on here i tossed in a little extra sugar (approx 150gms) hopefully it should still taste good but be a tad stronger :hmm:

Put my first "Wherry" into the keg (no priming sugar) on 3rd Jan.
By 11th Jan the pressure in the keg began increasing indicating secondary ferment.
Today I gave it another QC test and found it to be quite dry although still a little cloudy.
I don't suppose it will fully clear until the secondary ferment has finished.
I hear tell that "Wherry's" are not really ready until 8 weeks.
Time will tell.

Join the club, John!

My first ever batch of homebrew and it's Wherry too. The difference is, I broke the hydrometer straight out of the box and so I've no idea of the Sg.

I live in a smallish flat and so space is a premium. I put the FV on the top shelf in the closet and rigged up an electric heater to keep the top part of the closet at around 25°C for the first 2 days (it kept blowing the top off the airlock), then dropped the heat to around 18-20 for the next 6 days, during which time it was fairly quiet.

I then transferred it to the pressure keg, vaselined the O ring and put it back on the top shelf (grunt, groan, strain) and stopped the heatng altogether. It's been at about 14-15 for a week or so and I ventured a little taste yesterday... bloody magic! It still needs to sit a lot longer, but the taste is there and the head is developing nicely. I've no idea what the alcohol content is, but it should be nice to drink in another week or two. I think I'll leave it well alone, although I had thought about trying to put it somewhere even cooler... any thoughts anyone?

Great idea from fivetide about getting a second kit.. mind you I'd have to evict one of the kids to get it set up  . Those other brews mentioned look promising and I can see me trying some darker stuff before too long too! :drink:

Why didn't I do this 10 years ago..?

Thread resurrection!

Having largely ignored the Wherry for ages, I decided to crack open one of my sample bottles last night to see how it was going.

The last time I tried it (a couple of months back) it was tasting a little harsh, so I decided to leave it alone or a while.

Anyway... the news?...

Much improved... It's turned out a pretty fine brew. :thumb: (Especially considering it's my first).

I best get looking for a load of bottles or a second barrel so I have somewhere to put the Great Eastern kit that's lined up for next brew.

I have to confess that I wasn't particularly impressed with my Wherry, so it was relegated to the ‘cooking beers’ section of my cellar along with a few remaining bottles of one-can kit brews from early last year, but I tried a couple of bottles over the weekend, it's now 4 months old and quite quaffable.

I see you're planning on crossing over to the dark side, do it soon, you won't regret it.

We've been away and met a few friends over the weekend, I took some beers along, the Wherry was “alright” but my AGs, especially my AG#6 First Gold were “oh my God that's bloody lovely - tastes nothing at all like homebrew”.

The current plan is to brew the Great Eastern, since I've already got the kit, then think about an AG brew for brew number 3.

I've been slowly collecting bits & pieces to build up my AG brewing kit, but I've been kind of busy with other things, so not given it much time yet.
