totally agree, not many hobbies around where you can enjoy the end result so much :drink:

brewed my first turbo cider lastnight, 4 litres tesco value apple juice, youngs wine yeast, big blob of honey, swished together in a 5 litre water bottle! proper credit crunch brewing :D

will carbonate in PETS just before clearing (just incase it isnt strong enough!) ~7% abv :drunk:

should go well by sounds of it, i put mine in a corny but cant get it out at the mo due to pipe problems new pipe should arrive in next day or three then i can sup away, in the mean time i brewed 4 litres in a demijohn using another method, boiled 1 kg sugar with 4L juice to 24 c (no more) then cooled pitched champane yeast kept for 12 days at 16 c then crash cool at 6 c in fridge over night rack off and drink straight away which will be tomorrow during my AG brew of buzzbee bitter :drunk:

above recipe turned out rubish yeast unable to consume all the sugar, threw it away live and learn my moto

sorry to hear the brew didnt turn out,

tasted mine the other day and was suitably impressed! i drank the first bottle far too early (scrumpyish in its cloudiness and flatness) but left a few weeks to clear and carbonate in pets and fridged for a couple of days and it wasnt that far away from strongbow

could i add citric acid or similar next time (when and how much) to sharpen it up a tad?

thanks in advance

not sure mb maybe raise another post on the forum someone will know, iv gave up on the cider till the summer doing more AG now :thumb: but keep me informed with your results i quite like strongbow, my lessons learnt were dont add so much sugar that it kills yeast and dont ferment in large fv with alot of head space above the brew, both times it turned out naff but still good fun to do and only lost out on £8 or so :wha: live and learn

The addition of 1.5gms/ltr of citric acid will increase the acidity by approx 0.1%.
Idealy the acidity should be between 0.4 and 0.5%.
I would normally add the acid just before bottling or kegging.
If it’s too acid the addition 0.5gms/ltr of precipitated chalk will reduce the acidity by approx 0.1%
