Hi Folks
I thought it was about time of got my first brew of 2015 started.
I had a Wilko Sweet Newkie Brown to use up that I had brought during their sales, but also wanted to add a malt extract to the brew to get the most out of it.
So I steeped 250 grams of crystal malt & 100 grams of chocolate malt at 66 C for 30 mins in 6 litres of water.
I added the contents of the beer kit into my fermenting vessel, before adding 1 kilo of light dried spray malt and 500 grams of brewing sugar, lots of stirring to make sure it was all mixed in.
Then adding the steeped malt extract before washing out the grain bag into the fermenter with a pint of hot water.
Topped up to 23 litres with cold water, I had an original gravity of 1.048 before I pitched an Gervin GV12 English ale yeast.
Its all bubbling away nicely today and I will keep you all posted as to how this one turns out.
